What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin sheathes of dental grade porcelain that affix to the front surfaces of teeth correcting and concealing any cosmetic flaws in your smile. Prior to placement, your veneer will be approximately the size and shape of a fingernail. Once in place, the veneers will blend seamlessly into your smile line, looking and feeling like the picture-perfect smile you deserve.
What do Porcelain Veneers Correct?
Porcelain veneers can be used in a number of situations, including:
- Concealing staining when traditional teeth whitening is ineffective in delivering brighter smiles
- Correcting a number of chips, cracks, and other signs of dental wear all at once
- Closing gaps between teeth and concealing minor smile misalignment
How are Porcelain Veneers Placed?
Porcelain veneers are placed over the course of two trips to our office. During your initial visit, we will need to remove a small amount of surface tooth enamel. This makes it possible for the veneer to fit into your smile without making changes to the shape of your teeth. Once your teeth are prepared, we will capture impressions of your bite. These impressions are used by our lab to craft your veneers. To protect your smile and give you the opportunity to adjust to the look and feel of your veneers, Dr. Ringler will place a temporary veneer before your leave the office. When we receive the final veneers from our lab, you’ll return to the office. We’ll remove your temporary and exchange it for a flawless, custom porcelain veneer.
How Long do Veneers Last?
Many patients choose porcelain veneers to transform their smiles because the high quality materials are stain resistant. That means you can continue to drink coffee or enjoy dark colored foods without worrying about staining your new smile. With proper care, your porcelain veneer treated smile will look flawless for a decade or longer. We may work with you during six month dental exams to make some changes to your oral hygiene products to avoid excessive wear to the veneers. This could include using a softer toothbrush or less abrasive toothpaste. Waxed flosses and water flossers may also be beneficial. More fibrous flosses may stick beneath the veneer or tug around the edges.
