Who Is a Good Candidate for Teeth Whitening?

whitening-2To be a candidate for professional teeth whitening, you need to be in good oral health overall. That means your mouth should be free of cavities and gum disease. Fortunately, even if you are suffering from such issues, whitening may still be a viable option once your smile has been treated by a dental expert.

You can set up a cosmetic consultation with our dental team to learn more about the professional whitening process. After we check your teeth and get a clear picture of what you’re trying to achieve, we’ll give you our recommendation on whether or not the treatment is a good fit for you.

How Does Teeth Whitening Work?

whitening-3Our office offers patients the professional-grade Opalescence system of whitening, which provides the safest, most effective method for brightening your smile. Opalescence Boost is an in-office treatment that is completed in just one visit to our office, while Opalescence Go is performed from the comfort of your own home over the course of about two weeks.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening

With Opalescence Go, you’re given a kit that includes prefilled whitening trays. All you need to do is follow our directions for wearing these trays for a specified amount of time each day (usually around 15 to 20 minutes). Many patients see a noticeable change in their grins after 5 to 10 days.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

Patients who want to achieve a brighter smile as soon as possible may benefit from our in-office Opalescence Boost treatment. Unlike other professional whitening methods, the whitening gel used for Opalescence Boost is chemically activated. After just two or three whitening sessions (which take about 20 minutes each) your smile will have brightened significantly.

Tips for Maintaining Your Brighter Smile

whitening-4The effects of teeth whitening might not be permanent, but they can still last quite a while, especially when you go out of your way to keep your smile looking as bright as possible. Protect the results of your cosmetic treatment by:

  • Staying away from any foods or beverages that are known to cause tooth stains.
  • Brushing your teeth thoroughly two times every day.
  • Visiting our office twice a year for your regular preventive checkups and cleanings.
  • Having touchups performed whenever needed.
